Customer Situation

I received a call from a customer in La Vergne who had recently hit a curb, which caused damage to the driver-side suspension on their 2018 Chevrolet Equinox.

They mentioned the vehicle didn’t feel right afterward and were concerned about safety.

Customer Complaint

The main concerns were:

  • Vehicle pulling to one side

  • Steering feeling off

  • Visible issue with the front wheel

  • Unusual noise when driving

These are common symptoms when suspension components are damaged from impact.

Inspection & Diagnosis

When I arrived, I performed a full inspection of the driver-side front suspension.

Findings:

  • Lower control arm was bent and damaged

  • Suspension geometry was clearly affected

  • Wheel and tire also showed signs of impact damage

  • Vehicle was not safe to drive in its current condition

The lower control arm is a critical component that connects the wheel to the frame and helps maintain proper alignment and stability.

The Repair

Due to the damage, the driver-side lower control arm needed to be replaced.

Steps performed:

  1. Safely lifted and secured the vehicle

  2. Removed the damaged lower control arm

  3. Inspected surrounding suspension components

  4. Installed a new control arm

  5. Secured all mounting points to proper torque

  6. Rechecked suspension alignment visually

This type of repair is important to restore safe handling and stability.

Total time on-site was about 1.5–2 hours.

Result

After the repair:

  • Suspension structure was restored

  • Vehicle handling improved significantly

  • No more abnormal movement from the damaged component

⚠️ Note: Due to impact damage, I recommended a professional alignment and further inspection of the wheel/tire to ensure everything is fully within spec.

Why Control Arms Get Damaged

Control arms can fail or become damaged due to:

  • Impact with curbs or potholes
