Customer Complaint
A customer in Lebanon, Tennessee contacted Mobile Mechanic Co. because their 2016 Hyundai Sonata wasn't riding as smoothly as it used to. They noticed the rear of the vehicle felt unstable over bumps and rough roads, making everyday driving much less comfortable.
The customer reported:
Rough ride over bumps
Excessive bouncing from the rear suspension
Vehicle feeling less stable while driving
Suspension noise from the rear of the vehicle
These symptoms are commonly associated with worn rear shock absorbers.
Inspection & Diagnosis
After arriving at the customer's location, I performed a suspension inspection.
During the inspection I found:
Both rear shock absorbers were worn from normal use.
The shocks were no longer controlling suspension movement effectively.
The rear suspension was allowing excessive bouncing after driving over uneven pavement.
Shock absorbers play an important role in maintaining tire contact with the road, improving ride quality, and helping the vehicle remain stable during braking and cornering. As they wear over time, handling and comfort gradually decline.
The Repair
To restore the suspension performance, I replaced both rear shock absorbers.
The repair included:
Safely lifting and securing the vehicle
Removing both worn rear shocks
Installing new rear shock absorbers
Inspecting the surrounding suspension components
Tightening all hardware to specification
Road testing the vehicle to verify proper operation
The repair was completed on-site, allowing the customer to avoid arranging transportation to a repair shop.
Results
After replacing both rear shocks:
The rear suspension felt much more stable.
Excessive bouncing was eliminated.
Ride quality improved significantly.
Vehicle handling became smoother and more predictable.
The customer immediately noticed the improvement during the test drive.
